The mission statement of the Clutter Workshop and Motivation Meetings is: "To offer hope and practical services both to those who suffer with chronic clutter/hoarding issues, and also to their service providers, and to their family and friends."
The Clutter Workshop is a multi-faceted clutter reduction and prevention program, teaching and supporting the basics of motivation: "learning to let go," "non-acquisition," and mutual non-judgmental support. This program has some aspects of professional organizing, but chief focus is on issues of motivation and teaching others the tools to help themselves.
Focus is on awareness of current thought and behavior patterns in regard to clutter, ways to practice new thought and behavior patterns, and exercises for growth and reinforcement. This is done first in a single workshop session and then in group "maintenance" meetings.
Members are taught to enlist the support of others through "cross-coaching" and "side-by-side sorting." In addition to individual personal phone and in-person one-on-one coaching, guest speakers and special activities and events.
This clutter reduction and prevention program provides resources for both the public and professionals:
The mission of the National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization (http://www.nsgcd.org) is to explore, develop and disseminate to professional organizers and related professionals organizing methods, techniques, approaches, and solutions that will benefit chronically disorganized people. It is an online resource for anyone who is interested personally or professionally in chronic disorganization.
